Mirror Mirror : A Twisted Tale #NetgalleyReview

Releasing April 2nd, 2019!

(Disclaimer: I received this free book from Netgalley. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

I feel as if I've been waiting for this moment forever

Mirror Mirror is the Twisted Tale we have been waiting for and there are several reasons for that! This book is the encyclopedia of Snow White, her history, her passions, her resolve. It is the book that closes the story. Reading it feels like the end of an era.

Having just re-watched the movie Snow White, I realize I didn't notice the empty holes in the plot or why things happen to her. As a child, in a weird way, it was sort of a given. My opinion of this book also changed as I realized what I was holding in my hand... Answers. In this re-telling Snow White transforms from the princess who got poisoned by an enchanted apple into an outright picture of female strength. We meet a slew of new characters that bring her to life, and others that put the whole story you knew under a new light!

Characters and Background Stories

Every character that you remember, their story is here and revamped and others are far more influential in the storyline now than they used to be. Which is extremely refreshing because now there are reasons as to why things happen in the story. I won't spoil the new characters because they are the ones who move the stories into the plot twists and I don't want to give it away. So let's discuss our Original Friends.

The Mirror- gone are the days where the only thing the mirror answered to was, who is the fairest of them all? The Mirror is a character in his own right or like a fellow friend mentioned, he is a witch who likes drama! Honestly though probably one of my favorite development arcs in the whole book.

Ingrid (Evil queen)- Let's take a minute to appreciate this. The queen has a name! I was so confused when I saw it, that I really had to think back and say was she ever anything else but the evil queen? So get ready because you will get a lot of her and her inner thoughts! Evil minds rejoice :)

The Seven Dwarfs- We know them as the small men who gave Snow White a place to be safe but they are more than that within these pages and I am glad they are in the spotlight. Read and see!

The Huntsman- The intended murderer of Snow White. Well, he is back to reprise his role but don't hate on him yet, he has a story for it after all! Just buy the book and hear him out, ok? He deserves it.

The Prince- He is not singing anymore and definitely has more speaking lines in his return to the kingdom. I always thought he should have been more than just the guy who kissed the princess. My wishes have been heard!

The Plot

Every answer you've ever wondered about is in this plot.

  • Where were Snow's Parents?

  • Why is the Evil Queen like this?

  • Where did the Mirror come from?

  • Was there really a happily ever after?

  • What did Snow ever do to the Evil Queen to deserve her wrath?

to name a few. Honestly, the backstory is what this book was made for because it helps you see a classic from a different point of view. There is one thing that I wondered about and it is the fact that the main scheme of the twisted tale, What if she poisoned the prince? literally takes up like 5% of the plot. You will read about it for like 5 minutes and that will be the end of that. I do admit that while I picked up this book because of that premise, I cared a lot more about the new story and information I found within these pages.

Rating 4/5 ❤❤❤❤

In Conclusion

This book is best for those of us that are familiar with the story and for those who are visiting the story of Snow White for the very first time. Young readers will be captivated by this story and Adults like us will reminisce and cheer Snow White on as she fights her battles, learns her truths, and makes friends despite everything she has been through. As Snow White says If it wasn't quite "happily ever after," it was pretty close.
